Generating Leads Through Pinterest

PinterestYou may wonder how anybody could generate leads from Pinterest. Wikipedia has defined Pinterest as “a pinboard-style photo-sharing website that allows users to create and manage theme-based image collections such as events, interests, and hobbies”. Now that I explained what it is, let me explain how you can take advantage of Pinterest.

There is a group of people, my wife being one of them, that likes to collect ideas for gardening, birthday parties, holiday decorations, kid’s crafts and a bunch more stuff that she finds interesting. Just last night she was showing me ideas for the garden and things she thought were cool. Many of these images link back to a website.

What I do, and many other business people do also, is link the pinned image to the site that talks about that specific event. For example, create a board that says “Picnic Ideas”.  In this board,  post pictures from picnics where you have performed, along with the pictures explaining the ideas. It is not a sales pitch, it is about helping people solve problems. The pin could be a game, party favors, crafts, or entertainment tips, but make sure it relates to the subject of picnics. You need to add some useful information, otherwise nobody will repin your post.

Now, I know what you are going to say. “Dale, many of these people viewing my website do not live in my neighborhood, or even in my state. So how do they become a lead?” Answer: Just as a viral video goes around the world and, to no surprise, your neighbor sees it, the same is true of Pinterest Boards.

Creative Pinterest Boards are followed by 100’s to 1,000’s of followers. The more you pin pictures, the greater the chance it will reach the right people. Again, like-minded people are viewing that one board or topic. In this example, the only people viewing “picnic ideas” are people interested in or planning a picnic.

Lead generation is about hitting the right target market. Once you do that, your phone will start ringing. Feel free to check out and follow me on Pinterest. I try to add new pins weekly.
