What is Weighing on You?

Wasting TimeWhen it comes to your business, what keeps you awake at night or drains your energy during the day?

Have you ever tried listing these blood suckers onto a piece of paper?

Can you do it right after you finish this article?  It’s pretty easy really – just be dead honest with yourself and answer these simple questions:

  1. What small step should I be taking right now to improve my business?
  2. What am I doing instead?
  3. Why am I doing these other things?
  4. What are these other things costing me (time, pride, money, satisfaction, ???)?
  5. What will it take for me to do what I wrote in #1?

Go through the 5 steps with each blood/time sucker and see if you can identify a pattern. I’m guessing you’ll be able to do so pretty quickly.

This is perhaps the most powerful step you can take on a regular basis.  I do it every week and it helps me focus with laser accuracy on what I need to do and how I am going to get it done.

This exercise is NOT about beating yourself up for past behaviors.  It’s about identifying them and letting them go.  Acknowledging what is slowing you down, thanking it for coming by, and then showing it to the door.

Do this everyday for a week.  It should take about 5 minutes at the start of your work time, and then stop.  After you’ve done a couple of cycles just sit with the experience for another few minutes and let that get into your mind and body.  You have just ratted yourself out and you’ll be able to more clearly identify when you are drifting from your #1 activity and get back on track.

Oh, and if there is ANYTHING in the #1 position that takes less than 5 minutes to do – DO IT NOW.  Don’t even bother going through steps 2 – 5 for that one.  Just knock it out and move on.

Progress is measured in small steps.  Take them.

I’m going to write more on this because after talking to some members on the phone over the last week, I realize that many people are wasting precious time doing things that will never help them get more corporate gigs.

Ready.  Set. Go!
