Stop! Put The Electronics Down, Say City Leaders

 Art of Inflation Balloon Show

Geneva Park District challenges the community to “unplug” for a week.

Press Release

Geneva Park District challenges residents to get “unplugged” and leave their video games, phones, tablets, and other gadgets off for the 2nd – 6th of May. To help families overcome this struggle, the park district is offering free family events.

Orland Hills, April 21, 2016Geneva Park District is kicking off a week of Screen-Free with a free balloon show, Art of Inflation, and Dairy Queen Ice Cream on May 2, 2016, at the Geneva Park District, 710 Western Ave, Geneva at 6:00 PM.

“Putting down the electronics is going to be a challenge for some people, but we feel a good family-friendly show like Art of Inflation along with ice cream is a great alternative,” says Elliott Bortner, Recreation Manager.  The balloon show, Art of Inflation, is comedy, music, and balloon twisting all rolled into a 45-minute show.  Large balloon sculptures are created on-stage to music, and twisted into the show is a quick-witted comedy by professional entertainer Dale Obrochta.

The show’s highlight is a backlight segment where the balloons glow, which is Obrochta’s favorite moment.  “From the front of the stage, all I see are young faces glowing with excitement,” says Obrochta. After the show, families are encouraged to come close and take pictures with the works of art.

Geneva Park District Screen-Free week runs from May 2nd through the 6th. On Wednesday, May 4 – Scavenger Hunt in the Parks (All ages) 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Friday, May 6th, 6:00 – 7:00 pm, Family Fun Night – Mini Golf Ages 3 & Older.

These events are free, but participants must register with the Geneva Park District.  Please contact the Geneva Park District at (630) 232-4542.

Dale Obrochta has been performing since 1986 and has been a visual balloon interpreter for TEDxNaperville, appeared on WGN & WLS TV, and performed for numerous schools, park districts, and libraries in Illinois and Indiana.
