Don’t Be a Crab

What am I going to do today?

The best part of my job is that I get to choose what I want to do. I can work efficiently, swiftly, and pick the jobs I want to do.  Other days, I can take on the world, tackling completed jobs that require planning, work, and perseverance.  Doesn’t matter what it is, I get to choose.

It’s hard to be crabby when you control your life. You can go with the flow or you can buck the system.  Just this past week I decided to buck the system and not just report what others have said, but do the research and find the truth.

Did you know that the US Consumer Protection Safety Commission reported five choking fatalities for all 2010 by balloons? Now, the report does not show if it was a round balloon or twisting balloon, but common senses would says it’s a round balloon because these balloons are much more accessible to the public. In that same year, 74 million kids , 0-15 years old, lived in the USA. So I did the math and was surprise to learn that the percentage of kids choking on a balloon for 2010 was .000000006%.

It appears that crabby people of the world who report about balloon fatalities take the easy way out and just report 17 fatalities. Even more misleading is when the reports say 47% of children deaths happen because of balloons.  The lazy crabs of the world calculate balloon fatalities by saying 17 deaths for an entire year  / eight caused by accidents (balloons, small balls, and toys) and report  big numbers like 47%.

These poor crabby people are taking the quick way out and not doing the proper research.  I chose to do the research and it was a great learning experience. For me, it’s just having another fun day at the office choosing to do it the right way. It may mean doing a little extra work, but I choose to do it.
