Representatives from Paramount Pictures contacted me this past week and wanted to know if I would entertain at four theaters premiering their new kids movie, “How to Train Your Dragon”. Set in the mythical world of burly Vikings and wild dragons, and based on the book by Cressida Cowell. The action comedy tells the story of Hiccup, a Viking teenager who doesn’t exactly fit in with his tribes longstanding tradition of heroic dragon slayers. Hiccups world is turned upside-down when he encounters a dragon that challenges him and his fellow Vikings to see the world from an entirely different point of view.
To kickoff the movie premier, they were looking for a performer to make balloon dragons prior to the movie. The concept and opportunity sounded great, but the main reason I said no to Paramount representatives was the event was located in LA and they had no budget.
Now I can understand the mix-up of calling the wrong state. I have had three calls this week, 1 from CA, 1 MN, and another from NJ. With all the area codes it easy to call the wrong state, but not having a budget for a movie premier typically kills any twisting deal. Considering that they are going to make millions the first week let alone what they will make off DVD sales, I hope that the next movie producer who calls has a budget to pay for premier entertainment.
