Balloon Animal Instructions – Duck

KIDS  BALLOONING with Magical Balloon-dude Dale

Caution: Balloons are fun toys, but can be dangerous like all toys…PLEASE make sure small children do not chew balloons or have access to broken bits. We would like all our kids to grow healthy and happy. I ask you to be responsible like a professional balloonist. Adult supervision is recommended.

The first trick to making a balloon animal is to blow up the balloon. This is hard. You can buy a hand pump or use a football pump to help blow up the balloons. Do not blow the balloon up all the way… you only need 1/2 a balloon.

Carefully tie the balloon. When twisting a balloon, always start at the end with the knot. Do not worry, it will not break if you twist it, but you must hold on to both ends of the balloon. Otherwise, the balloon will untwist. The balloon will not stay twisted by itself. You have to twist the balloon together.

Step 1— Blow up the 11″ around three-quarters of the way. You will be splitting this balloon into one-third. Do not try twisting it yet! The balloon will not stay twisted, you have to twist another balloon in to make them stay.

Step 2–Making the Duck’s Bill – Blow up a long skinny balloon (260) only two-thirds of the way. You do not need more than that. Make a bubble about 3-4 inches long, and twist. Make sure you hang on to the balloon otherwise, it will untwist.

Step 3–Take the nozzle of the balloon and wrap it around the joint of the balloon. This will create a loop. Wrap the nozzle around and through. Be careful, the twisting and wrapping of the nozzle will hold the balloon in place, but it is not going to stay wrapped if you start hitting your brother or sister with it.

Step 4–Make the next bubble 5-6 inches. This is the hard part. You will need to hang on to the balloon; otherwise, it will untwist. You now need to make another 3-4 bubble and make a loop at the end of the balloon. It should look like the figure. Then twist joints A and B together.

Step 5–Take the 11″ balloon with the nozzle facing the ground and twist the balloon a little less than halfway. The small part is the head and the big part is the body. You will need to hold on to both parts; otherwise, it will untwist.

Step 6–Carefully wrap the 260 balloons together with the 11″ round. This will be the Duck’s head and body with the big part of the balloon being the body with the nozzle facing the ground.  Twist the duck’s bill (Joints A and B) in between the head and the body of the duck.

Step 7–The Duck’s feet – The feet are made out of another long balloon (260), which is blown up two-thirds of the way. Tie the ends of the balloon together and fold the balloon in half. Twist the opposite side of the newly tied balloon together. This will create the feet.

Step 8–Attaching the feet. Take the feet, at the twisted joint — wrap the nozzle from the Duck’s body into the feet at the knot in the feet. After you have drawn on the features, the duck should look like this:
