Bruce Lee said, “Adapt what is useful, reject what is useless, and add what is specifically our own.” He was talking about martial arts, but I say this should be the #1 rule of balloon twisters.
Adapting what is useful will get you jobs. These jobs will be more entertaining and profitable than spending hours creating unknown characters and creatures at home.
Reject what is useless. Learning 23 different balloon dogs does not make you a better twister unless you are working for the Eukanuba National Kennel Club Championship. Focus on one or two killer balloon dogs and move on. More things are essential in life than 23 different dog shapes.
Add what is specifically our own. Lady Gaga and Rod Steward can sing White Christmas, and you can instantly tell who is singing. Develop your own specific style, do not worry about what others are doing, and everything else will fall into place.
Copying what others do does not mean you will be successful. It only guarantees you to be just one of many copying their style. Adapt what is useful, reject what is useless, and add your own individually, which will make you a force to deal with in the balloon industry.
