Was wondering if I need to get insurance?  I am just starting out doing a few freebies at my childrens school to get word out there.  I know insurance is big on the UK sites but was wondering about in US.  Where do you get face painters insurance?  I found one site "clowns of the us" but it is kind of spendy for a stay at home mom that is trying to start out.  I don't know if it will pay in my small area but it is something I enjoy doing.

Get insurance.  Period.  It isn't that expensive, say, through wca or coai.

So, how much should I expect to pay for insurance?

Thanks.

Each company should have their rates posted on their websites...

there's another thread around here, somewhere about this topic.....

but for example Clowns of the US is $190 per year... they changed their name recently to entertainers of the US.. i believe.....

there's also Bomba insurance... and a couple of others

Thank you for your help, and I will definitely get insurance.  I just got back from a party at our preschool (donated my time for practice) and painted 18 kids in 1 1/2 hours, not too bad for being rusty, and especially doing only cheek art as per the teacher.  It was loads of fun...now I know why I love to do this.

Yeah... I figured the companies have their rates posted. I was trying to figure out what a ballpark figure was so that I could see if the company I was talking to had a decent rate. So, maybe I should ask another question...

What are the different websites or companies I can contact or read about that offer insurance for balloon twisters and party going entertainers?

Thanks!

I've used Specialty Insurance Agency, aka Performers of the U.S. &/or Vendors of the U.S.,  formerly Al Fellerman aka Clowns of the U.S. for the past several years.  I am happy with the service, and they will provide additonal certificates of insurance at no additional charge.

I have also heard good things about Bomba insurance, but it is not available in California.

My insurance comes from St Paul Travelers--I got it by calling a local agent in Virginia.  It's a million dollar policy, and was very affordable.   I like the fact that I have a local agent if I need something special--for instance if a client requires a certificate of co-insurance.  Do call around--you can get all kinds of crazy quotes.

Yes, I have heard that other companies can charge as much as $30.00 each for additional certificates.  I had never been asked to provide an additional before, but last week I had a school and a housing complex request them.  I would not have gotten either of these gigs if I didn't have insurance and both of these gigs together more than paid for the year's policy.

I'm sending out two copies of my certificate today.  Both clients told me that a photocopy of the certificate is just fine, so you might not need to spend the extra money of additional copies after all.

Many times the client wants to be added as an additional insured and needs to see their name on the certificate.   Other times a photo copy is just fine.

The clients I have who have asked for the added cert are shopping centers, but have needed them for multiple events in the past 8 months.
