I have a few of my artists working on the Applause Technique starting this week. So, hopefully I'll have a better understanding of the mechanics fairly shortly... Through a strange set of circumstances I was hired by a theatre in Maine for a balloon show. They contacted me with the situation that they had a fully booked theatre (500 seats) and no entertainment ... and would I be interested. YES!

After talking with the theatre director on the phone and stopping in to see the theatre (a bit daunting I must admit) he asked, "Can you hold a room that large?" "Yes I can" I answered without hesitation.

To be honest, I had no idea if I could or not. But I knew I wanted to try. It ended up being a huge success and they've hired me for another show this summer.

The cool part is that night was the opening night of Charlie Brown so I got to use their set as my backdrop - rocked.

The other cool thing is that the night before my show, Big Brother and the Holding Company (Janice Joplin's band) played the same theatre. I didn't recognize the lead guitar player or lead singer when they asked for one of the balloon masks I had prepped for my show. I told them if they wanted it to come to the show. - I told Big Brother they couldn't have a balloon! HA!

As to the idea of an applause sign, I purchased one recently from a magic shop that shows " applause please " on one side, you flip it over & it says " louder " then you flip it over a third time & it says " thats enough". Could be a fun way to get people applauding at the beging of the night & help carry it thru the rest of the night.
