Changing my Business Model The balloon entertainment
industry, like many other industries, is taking a hit and business is
slow. I have found myself changing my business model this year and
focusing on more direct marketing to companies. So far it has been
working, but very time consuming. Now, some people may consider this
too much work, but think of all those people who spend hours each day
driving back and forth to work every day and how much time is being
spent commuting. My commute is less than a minute from my bedroom to my
office. I figure I should be able to spend at least a half an hour a
day doing some kind of marketing/research. After all it is my business
and nobody is going to do it for me, so I have too.
I have been
tweaking my balloon show over the past few months – this is an ongoing
project. It reminds me of a story I heard about a seasoned world class
juggler who would perform at conventions periodically. At a particular
convention he was doing Q&A secession and a show later that evening.
While at a Q&A session, a novice juggler asked the question – “I’m a
big admirer of you work and respect your talents, but will you be doing
any new tricks in your act this year?” The seasoned world class
juggler’s face went blank. You could see his eyes swell with water and
he said in a soft, but shaky voice.”This is my life’s work that I
perform for you – so to answer your question, no.”
As an
audience we forget that the person performing has spend many of years
perfecting his talent and we are to quick dismiss it as soon as we see
it performed. So the next time you are watching America’s Got Talent,
sit back and enjoy the show. You just may be seeing somebody’s entire

I have recently started
working with individuals on
improving their own marketing and I'm always looking to work with
other business people and share ideas. If you are looking to
brainstorm, I would love to hear from you. It doesn’t matter what you
do for a living, having a network of people to share business ideas is
always great to have at your disposal.
Entertainer’s Tip
It’s
been a while since I presented any entertainers tips in a newsletter
and will be starting this again in the next newsletter. I do want to
say that I have created a new topic in the mbd2.com
forum called Marketing which has some great ideas for marketing.

Pretty Pictures
I thought it was time to
have a professional photographer take some photos of me for my website
and marketing material.WOW! What a difference
it makes when you have a professional who knows what they are doing
behind the camera…not only do the pictures come out clear, but also with
so much detail.Some 200 photos were taken and I
just starting to incorporate them into documents.Here
is what I have done so far…

First, let me wish you a Happy New Year. I hope you and yours are doing well. New Balloon Design Well
it has been a while since I picked up a balloon and started twisting
something. Therefore, I decided to give myself a little challenge. The
movie Avatar is the big talk so I went online and found a photograph of
the main character Jack Sully and using what balloons I had in my
balloon apron tried to recreated the character.
Why did I do
this? Well I know in the next couple of weeks I will get somebody
requesting this character and having done it once will give me a better
chance to impress them with my skills. Plus I was in the mood to twist
balloons. It does not happen that often -- working on my 26th year of
balloon twisting this April.
The Avatar character
took about 20 minutes to create and I did not spend that much time
researching all the details, just enough to give an idea what the
character looked liked. I feel it's a good representation of the
character for just 20 mintues of research and twisting.

It's
hard to believe that this year is rapedly coming to an end. I have
gone through some presonal things this year, the loss of my mother in
May to the birth of my second child in June. Like most businesses, I
am working extra hard in these trying economic to keep improving and to
keep employeed. This year I was able to post 198 articles in Dale's Blog
which I hope you found interesting, funny, educational and thought
provoking. Michelle and I have been working on improving and geting
