Hello All!!!

I recently ordered some balloons from a local Canadian supplier and they came without any of that nice, soft talc powder that makes some batches of balloons soooooooo nice to work with!!! Is there any way to re-talc balloons that may be lacking in this area????

Yes, you can re-talc your balloons - Take a little, very little baby powder added in to a bag of balloons and shake the bag up.  Do not over do it.  I have done that and the balloons become to slippery and do not hood the twist.

Another trick is after doing a long show and you have talc all over your hands, rub your hands over the poorly talc balloons, some of the talc will come off your hands and on to the balloons.

If you have a bag, that has too much talc, mix in the bag that is under-talc and rub them together.

Lastly, you can do what I do . . .  Just use the balloons as is.

Hope that helped

What I do is just use them or put them aside. I won't mess with the re-talcing. My problem would be the talc inside the balloon! They are stuck together inside so you have a hard time inflating. I mouth inflate so I'd rather put them aside. No need for a hernia!

Here's one that I chuckle about now, but was a pain in the "beee-hind" (as my 6 year old will say)

Last Saturday I was running from my second show of the day and heading to a local school for a beginner's balloon animal class.

I had tucked my 1/2 full Gatorade bottle into my backpack in order to have less things in my hands to carry.

On the way home to change clothes and get ready for my next event, I noticed that there was some moisture on my apron that I couldn't explain.

My Gatorade had LEAKED all over my apron and all over my balloons!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHhhhhhhhhhh!!!

I spent the next hour pulling all the balloons off the apron, putting it into the wash, and trying to figure out what to do with all the balloons that had Gatorade all over them.

I desperately tried to douse them under a water faucet to try to wash off the Gatorade. I wasn't sure if it was going to work or not.

I went to the class with all my balloons in a pile and told them what happened. As we worked with the Gatorade balloons, I noticed they would all pop after a short while. They also had purple stains on them as the Gatorade was drying. So, I ended up giving all my balloons to the kids to play with -- since they didn't care about the breakage percentage.

I had to completely reload my apron and wasted over 200 balloons......I made it to my evening gig with 5 minutes to spare. Talk about loading an apron on the fly! (I was even saying words to myself that I would never say in front of kids!! Hahahaha.)

Yikes! Now I don't carry my Gatorade in my bag anymore!!!

I hate having to learn things the hard way!

Anyone else have these kind of experiences?

Not with he Gatorade, but I had just finished loading my apron at a local Fringe festival last summer and just opened a new bottle of water and I had just bent over to drop my hat on my cooler and I forgot that my water was opened. I don't know how it happened, but I managed to soak almost all of my almost 5000....yes five thousand balloons in my apron. Now I know that water isn't a major thing, but I am a guy that LOVES to work with freshly talced balloons. It was not the most pleasant few days until I got rid of them. It was like working with rubber and not latex......but Gatorade.......now that would have been a totally different experience altogether.

Maybe there was just enough 'citrus' solution in the Garorade to pop the balloons?

I'm not sure what it was. My theory is that they were just "sticky" enough that they didn't want to twist too much!

I once worked out in the rain at a fest.  People thought I was nuts, but had a small line.  If I went under the large tent where everyone was standing would have had to make 100's of balloons. So I choose the rain, and the small line.  Had many complements about me being a dedicated entertainer, rain or shine.  The only thing I forgot about was my apron which I was wearing.  Needless to say all the talc ran off.  Next day same event, I decided to talc my balloons, over did the talc and the balloons would not hold a twist.  So I learned, switch bags if your going to work out in the rain.

Dale, just in case I should be caught in the rain, is there any special brand of talc I should use on my balloons?  I'm already guessing fragrance free.

I use Johnsons baby powder. Occassionally I get a bag that doesn't seem to have any talc on them at all. For some reason black is the worst offender. I put about a teaspoon in the bag and shake it good. Then  I pour all the balloons on the carpet and do a quick mix with my fingers to remove any excess.Works good for me.
I had a similar spillage experience a while back with my bag. The bad thing is I don't even know what it was. Fortunately it wasn't fully loaded but I did have to wash my bag. All the balloons were stuck together and some sticky substance was transfered to my hands. Trying to rinse the balloons didn't help either.

You could use pure cornstarch from the grocery store, too, since that is what is often in powder. Corn starch is probably cheaper, too, since it doesn't have perfumes and any fancy names and packaging and commercials with chubby babies.

Dale, I would have done the same thing, thinking the balloons would keep what they needed and the rest would just fall away.

Thanks for all the tips.  I will store them away in my balloon file for emergency repair measures.

I'll bet it looked like it snowed. Yeah, a teaspoon works good for me. Gotta try the corn starch some time. I use the baby powder because I already have it to set the greasepaint when I clown.
