Hello all!!!!

I am trying to develop a model for a balloon pinata to include with my birthday packages......a concern I have is that in order to pop the balloons...I'll need a pin on a stick of some kind. My major concern is giving a "weapon" like that to kids that are "hopped up" on sugar is a baaaaaaaaaad move....any thoughts from the forum??????

If the balloon was pretty full of air, you wouldn't need a really sharp object to pop it.  Maybe a cheap meat tenderizer mallet attached to a pole?  Still kind-of dangerous though.

What about having something rigged at the point where you hang it from.  If you would be able to rig something up that when the balloon is "bounced" away from the attachement point, that when the balloon returns to the normal posisiton, it would be popped.  Maybe hanging it from a magic pipe, so when the balloon is forceful puched against it it will pop?

Let me know if you come up with anything, it sounds like a neat idea.

Dan what if...

Fully inflated the balloon, mount/hang the balloon, take wide stick, and wrapped double-faced cloth carpet tape around the stick.  When the piñata is hit, the tape would stick to the balloon and when the stick is pulled back would break the balloon.  This is only a theory.  I have never tried making a piñata.

Thanks for the ideas!!!!

I am going to try and build one this weekend....I'll let you know how it turned out....I might try using a stick with some sandpaper glued to the end of it.......(or the double sided carpet tape)

I am thinking of a 5-6 layered tropical fish starting with 160's to get a really tight weave and then build around them gradually using larger balloons.............

I think the possibilities are endless as far as party themes go..........I mean....who wouldn't want to take a stick to Elmo or Tweety bird.....heheh

My next question would be what to charge for this item.....paper mache pinatas usually go for around 20 dollars Canadian (or three bucks american :(     ) and you never know how long that candy has been inside the pinata.

I think the personal touch of making one would add that little extra "oomph" that we all look for.....

Any thoughts from the forum with regard to cost????

Hello All!!
I tried the pinata, and, alas... the kids were horrified at taking a stick and beating ELMO with it....It was very difficult to have it tied up in such a way as to have it stable enough to hit with a stick.
Oh well...back to the drawing board!!!

I think I would make something that wouldn't be a loveable famous character! From the way it sounds, that was a bad choice!  I thought about using the large round, maybe an 11" that you can fill with candy easier, and then turn it into something like an elephant or hippo! just make a square out of 260s to hold the round and then be able to hang it up and let it get whacked! But if the round is tight, I think that the round would pop easier by just getting whacked! The 260s will cushion it a little so it would take a little but to pop it but should still be fun!
