HI everyone:

I am an amateur clown. I live in New York. I like your site because i got a lot of ideas from there.

I just want to know, some ideas about to start the party. I mean how could I do to have more attention when I get inside the place of the party.

Now I start putting some music and giving a salutation to everyone, then I do some silly magic tricks, but sometimes I feel like i am not getting the whole attention.
Also I have around 15 minutes doing animal balloons and on that time the children go around and, also I lose their attention.

I appreciate your suggestions.

Thanks,

Chabela

Hi Chabela,

For me it can be very frustrating to feel like you are "losing control" of your audience, whether they like you or not.

What has worked for me is to have a sequence of routines that I have worked on before, so that when I'm feeling lost or overwhelmed, I can still fall back on what I am supposed to be doing at the time.

Depending on their ages, it is perfectly natural for the kids to wander about. My focus is always on the kid who I am making the balloon for at the time.

Sometimes it's an issue of self-esteem for me and I don't think I'm "doing very good." However, that's all in my head most of the time and people really like me.

Practice making new animals!!! That keeps you fresh and inventive.

Good Luck!

Hello All!!!,
I have found the best way to hold them from the start is to tell some jokes or stories while I am making the balloons. I have written some stories that I tell while making a few balloons and this seems to hold their attention. I always try to incorporate a "volunteer from the audience" while I am telling the story. This gets their attention from the "get-go" and holds it until the end of the story.
Hope this helps!!

Hi there! It has been my experience that the younger they are, the more animated you have to be to keep their attention. A good thing I have found to do about half way through a birthday party show is to have something interactive, possibly with music, that gets the kids on their feet and moving for a few minutes. It lets them burn some nervous energy and makes them feel like they are part of the show. Then you can move on to balloons or other things that require more attention. Bubba Sikes says that if you leave them on their butts for too long the blood drains from their brains....I think this is true. I hope this has helped!   SQUEEZE

This works for large parties... o:p>

Inflate a couple of 350Q balloons and shoot them across the room.  This will get everyone's attention that something is going on.  When people look at you, quickly give the balloon to a small child and point to them.  The old blame game.

Make hats - When people wear hats they are seen by many, balloon animals are just held and not seen as much.

Whenever twisting, twist the balloon facing up into the air.  The waving balloon will catch other peoples attention, and if you accidentally hit somebody with the balloon you will get there attention too.

Another possibility is if you can do wacky voices! If you can then try to do the jokes using the different voices for the different characters in the joke/story!

This is just offered as a way that can work well with the afore mentioned suggestions!

But practice makes perfect!

The more jobs you have, the better you will get.

Practice! Practice! Practice!!!!
