Forum Upgrade

As the mbd2.com balloon forum grows, so does maintenance of the site. Small improvements have been made with stats, retrieval times, but nothing that is the average user would notice. Nevertheless, these upgrades are necessary and another round of upgrades will be occurring soon.

The mbd2.com forum is open to anybody who is interested in balloon entertaining or in entertainment field. Please feel free to join and participate in this free discussions. I appreciate your input, ideas, and creativity involving the entertainment field.

As an entertainer, we stride to become the best we can be. We learn many skills and slowly we just focus on one craft, balloons, magic, clowning, juggling, etc. Nevertheless, as time goes on we become very one-dimensional. This can be a hindrance as we become popular in the entertainment environments.

We have seen it on TV where one character it typecast for life because of a character he has played. This just happened to me this month. I had an agent call the other day to ask my availability to do the Chicago Bulls game. She was calling entertainers and wants to know if I would do ballooning at the game. I told her sure, but do you want me to do
balloons or juggle, it was up to her. I have done the Bulls games many
times as a balloonist but never as a juggler. The agent thought for a second and said “juggler”.

This was nothing new; I have been a juggler, magician, MC, variety show performer, character performer, and clown. When I arrived, I saw many familiar faces with mouths open. “Magical Balloon-dude Dale, balloon entertainer extraordinaire, is not doing balloons?” This was a shock to most, because the only knew me as a balloonist. The agent only knew me as a balloonist. To these people I was one-dimensional, balloons and only balloons. Now they know me as a juggler and balloonist.

Now is the time to improve your skills. January and February are traditionally slow. Practice your juggling, magic, and comedy, look for other entertainers, and develop your kills. Being one-dimensional is great in a flat world, but our world is round.

Boy, have things changed. When I first started sending out update notices, it was just a couple of line saying “hey, new pictures at...”, but this site has grown bigger, and bigger, and with cooler stuff. As a result, the two-line email has now gone to the ezine format. I have now started archive these messages and will have a link off the update notice form and at the end of the email.
