Entertainers Tip 21 - Freebies

Let me first say they are a lot, and I mean a lot, of good charities and
organization that are looking for entertainers, but the scariest word
to an entertainer is FREEBIE. Why is it that when you provide an entertainment
service people just expect you to donate your time? Do these event planers
ask for everything free? And if they get everything free, why are the
having a fund raiser? After all they want you to work free, isn't everyone
else providing free food, free drinks, free hall, free raffle prizes,
free, free, free….
But the real truth is that there
is a cost to everything. There is nothing free in life, but still people
ask. Some are offend. Some question, why? Others say what's my discount
price? Or, the line of all line is, "you can pass out your business
cards - you will never know who will be there". If we really think
about it, the only people attending are people looking for FREE stuff.
There not interested in your service or product, just how do I get my
FREE stuff.
Do not misunderstand me; I do
realize that some of these people do come to support the event. However,
over the 19+ years of entertaining, I have not received any work for a
"FREEBIE" events. Therefore, my advice to you is to stick to
your prices. If you want, offer a percentage discount or make sure this
is the organization that you are willing to support year after year, and
provide free services.

Boy, have things changed. When I first started sending out update notices,
it was just a couple of line saying "hey, new pictures at...",
but this site has grown bigger, and bigger, and with cooler stuff. As
a result, the two-line email has now gone to the ezine format. I have
now started archive these messages and will have a link off the update
notice form and at the end of the email.
