We encourage our children to keep learning, growing and developing, but why is it that when we become adults we slow down the learning process?. We settle for the CliffsNotes of learning, by watching condensed News, skim newspapers for interesting articles, flip through magazines that have more pictures and ads then real content. We listen to radio news that repeats the same summarize news broadcast over and over again yet we want our children to be well-rounded in their education and to grow up creative and educated.
How can we become experts and teach our children, when we are just sliding through life without making the effort to improve and advance. Companies have learned to accept this logic and find it easy to replace people who conform to this thinking. Being creative and in the know, makes it harder for a company to simply plug-in another body and continue as normal.
If expanding your knowledge on a subject makes you expert, than what is stopping you from doing it? Experts are respected and hired more readily then people with basic knowledge. Why not set an example for you kids and become an expert? The company you work for will appropriate your skill and knowledge, your kids will have a role model and along the way you too will become enlighten with the knowledge you’ve learned.

I am too busy to exercise.
I am too busy to read.
I am too busy to have a hobby.
I am too busy to take a vacation.
I am too busy to learn all the functions on my Smartphone.
I am too busy to write a blog.
I am too busy to work for a charity.
I am too busy to join a community club.
I am too busy to play with my children.
I am too busy to learn new things.
I am too busy not improving myself or advancing my career.
There is not a person in the world that is not busy doing something, just that some people have learned the secret to success… scheduling time for yourself. If you do not schedule some time for yourself, you are just going to be too busy to do anything. Schedule 1-hour a day for yourself and do the things that you claim you are too busy to do. You will find out how rewarding these tasks are once you build them into your schedule.
Moreover, think about this, there are people who are so busy that they could not take 5-mintues to read this blog and improve themselves, but will spend 5-minutes waiting in line for a cup of coffee.
Perky Coworker vs Drama Queen –
Which stimulates positive thoughts?
Have you ever considered that your positive thoughts shape how others see you, react to you and thus create your self-image? Perky people are positive people who like bright colors and are willing to engage everyone and anyone in a lively conversation. They see the good in everything and sometimes labeled “goodie two-shoes” by those with negative personality.
Negative personalities relish in others failures; they seek out the car crashes, failed relationships, and gossip news. Negative people are the worrywarts and drama queens and everything revolves around them and their emotions, ideas, and their life.
Let’s treat our mind like our body and feed it with healthy food. Fill your minds with positive thoughts, images, ideas and people. This positive information will improve your health and attitude, but also the consumption of “healthy” positive information will be communicated to others though body language, personality and topic of discussion with coworkers.
Why not start today, digest more positive information and allowing the metamorphism to start and enhance your self-image to the positive forces.
Working Under Pressure You Achieve Your Best Work
“I do my best work under pressure,” really, under pressure? I have heard this statement from many people who are up against a clock to get a project completed. Magically, they get super human abilities that allow them to think faster, focus harder, and manage their time more efficiently. If one really has this ability, would you want to develop it so you could perform at this level every day? It’s like a super hero who gets their magical powers, but doesn’t know how to use or control them. They work to perfect their fighting skills so they can use them to foil evil villains. The Hulk needs pressure to transform into a beast that has super human powers, but first he has to get really mad before reaching his optimal potential.
Imagine you build a team of sales staff with super human abilities that can accomplish their task with perfection. The only problem is you need to get them really mad and put them under a lot of pressure to perform. Really, is this the work environment that you want to work in? Would it not be best to develop you time management skills and improve your performance so your back is never against the wall?
Great professional athletes develop strenuous work ethics to insure they are performing at peak efficiency. I’ve never heard a professional athlete say, “I want to be down by 20 points in the final game of the final champion series with only minutes left and then I will start to play best game.” Instead you want them to say “We came here to kick butt and take names. That’s what we did; we came out strong and never let up. That is why we’re the best!”
Creating an image with co-workers that “you do your best work under pressure” is not the image you seek. You want the image that you give 100% on every project and you’re here to kick butt and carry them to the land of glory. Champions don’t have to work under pressure; they control it and put the pressure on those who can’t perform at their level.
Consistently late, consistently unreliable, consistently is mediocre we rate people by.
Consistency is a negative perception more so than a positive perception. Very rarely will you hear the praise of being consistently on time, consistently superior, or consistently accurate? Yet people stride to be consistent in their activities, judgments and routines.
Maybe the trick to success is to avoid consistency and embrace the imbalances of life. Performing the same consistent task over and over again does not increase your success or production. People who reach success are not being consistent, but radical in their approach to a concept or idea. Why not expand your perception of what is consistent and reach for a whole new level that isn’t consistent, but exceptional.
Perceptions, don’t let them keep you from Archiving your Goals.
The inside sales staff perception of the world is controlled by their communication limitations. Tethered to a phone, computer, and the surrounding equipment they struggle to achieve goals set by management. Many will seek to reach the goals while others fall short and blame the tools at their disposal. They perceive the newest smart phone will enhance their greatness and make them efficient, but forget with any new device the learning curve is steep. Overwhelmed by the changes they quickly wish for their old ways and look upon the new ones as the reason they cannot achieve their goals. No matter what you perception is of your equipment, good or bad, it is up to you to envision that you can achieve any goal with whatever tool is at your disposal. Because, the greatest tool at your disposal is you and your ability to adapt, improve, and overcome. And if all else fails, read the manual, it just may change your perception on what you’re doing.
Positive Images creates Winning Results
I know doing standing side-lunges are good to build core strength and works the legs, but it is the one part of my daily workout I just want to fast-forward through. Organizing the basement is tedious and not fun or as my son would say when cleaning up his room “it’s boring”. We all have things we just don’t want to do for many excuses, but we create a negative image to the chore which makes it harder to accomplish.
My four year old son will spend more time crying, standing in the bad boy corner, and getting yelled at for not pickup his toys. The energy spent not doing it is more than if he just picked up his toys.
Create a positive image in your head about the project. There is a yin and yang to everything and it is our job to focus on the positive image. Things we like to do we accelerate at and cannot wait to jump into it and get our hands dirty. A positive image is a winning image.
Tips on how enhance your positive images and improve results.
- Add music – music is a natural pick-me-up mood enhancer and will help make the task not as boring.
- Relaxing breaths – take a five to six big relaxing breath before doing a project. Breathing will help relax muscles and increase your focus.
- Drink water – The body needs water and being hydrate will ensure your body and mind are physically ready to take on the task.
- Imagine what the project will look like when competed. Visualizing the completed project will make you feel better knowing there is an end to the project.
- Work with somebody who likes and has a positive image about the project. Allow some of their enthusiasm to rub off on you. You just may learn to like the things you dislike.
Stop, look around and take in the images people are presenting to the world. You have the young reality want-a-bee with pants hanging down and looking all cool, dark shades on, while in the building. The fashion diva in her 6-inch pumps strutting around like she is the queen and all must move out of her way. The businessmen who just arrived from the office still in full suit and tie looking confused, but already has an alcoholic drink in hand. The man wearing the blazer from the 1970’s with the pattern of the Budweiser logo all over it. The ladies who strategically fit their shirts to show off their assets and their counterpart looked like a Physicist from the Big Bang Theory.
The international family who’s grasps of the English language is better than native born residences. Teens who feel the tighter the clothes the better they look or the guy sporting the NFL shirt while attending a NBA playoff game.
I cannot forget the fanatic with the red Mohawk hair dressed in sports attire. These are just some of the images I observed while performing at the United Center for game 5 of the Chicago Bulls playoffs. I know why I’m dressed like I am, but looking around, I see many amusing and interesting images.
